|Now, these VSOPs are ALSO worth some serious tasting|
I gave you the other day some ideas about Excellent VSOP from the grande Champagne. Let's have a look now at the Petite Champagne. My favorite is the Château de Montifaud - Sabina, by the way.
And for the rest, for the rationale on why my sudden infatuation with VSOP, what I said there is still valid. Read on:
XO. The Chinese buyers love story with XO Cognac is having a tremendous impact on the Cognac industry.
Everybody is hunting XO throughout the Cognac producing region. XO and beyond -Louis Xiii, the Voyage of Jean Martell, Richard etc. etc. - and lots of zeros in the price.
Supply is limited by acreage and by the very fact that XO can't be improvised. Either one has the right eaux-de-vie or not, and if not, no XO.
Nobody in the markets these days seems inclined to give a thought to humble VSOP. However, to tell the truth as it is, a good VSOP is better than a mediocre XO. And, again, these days some XOs are born on the freighter on their way to China rather than by decades in oak barrels in Cognac, France. In fact, rumor has it that 8 out of 10 bottles sold in China as Cognac have never had anything to do with France, let alone Cognac.
That is why I am proud to present these Grande Champagne VSOPs as a benchmark of excellence and workmanship...Enjoy
