GABRIEL & ANDREU @

SINGLE-ESTATE COGNACS

What is single-estate Cognac?

There are 4 different families of cognacs:

  • Blended cognacs: they can be a blend from different distilleries, different districts, and different estates.
  • Single-distillery cognacs: they are Cognacs made from one distillery only. The grapes can come from different districts or different estates. The cognacs have the caracteristics given by the distiller.
  • Single-districts cognacs: there are 6 different districts in the Cognac region: Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne, Borderies, Fins Bois, Bons Bois and Bois Ordinaires. These districts are regulated by French law (Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée). Each one has a very singular subsoil and microclimate resulting in very different Cognacs. A single-district Cognac is made from grapes exclusively from one of the 6 districts.
  • Single-Estate Cognacs: they are Cognacs made exclusively from one single property. Consequently, they also are single-district and single-distillery as well. They usually are Cognacs with the most character.
Contrary to the majority of cognacs, each product of GABRIEL & ANDREU is not blended and comes from a single château or estate. Each of the four cognacs that we are offering has very specific flavors and aromas related to their soil of origin. We have specifically identified the prevailing aromas of each district and present them on the back labels.

Each of our 4 pure Cognacs come from a Single Château:

One Grande Champagne from
"Domaine de Communion"

One Petite Champagne from
"Domaine Fleuret"
One Borderies from
"Domaine Varennes"
One Fins Bois from
"Château de Clam"
